Make Your Own "Lemon/Lime" Spritzer

If you crave soda, you are not alone, One of the hardest things for many of my clients is giving up diet soda.

I can related. Before I was diagnosed with diabetes I drank a lot of soda, and when I found out that I had diabetes, I made the switch to diet soda, thinking it was a better option. Then I learned that in addition to the health risks associated with aspartame, drinking diet soda increased my craving for sweets was getting in the way of managing my blood sugars. But, breaking this habit was really hard.

Sometimes you just want a sparkling drink with a hint of sweetness. Having diabetes is not about deprivation, so instead of reaching for a diet soda try this refreshing twist on the popular sodas 7-Up and Sprite. All you need is some sparkling water, 2-3 slices of lemon and/or lime, natural sweetener of and some ice cubes. It's as easy as pouring the sparkling water into a glass, adding the lemon/lime slices, and your sweetener.

Ingredients:

8 ounces sparkling water

2-3 slices of lemon and/or lime

2-3 drops Liquid Stevia (Sweet Leaf Brand- Plain or Lemon Drop)

Ice cubes (as desired)

Directions:

Pour the sparkling water into a glass

Slice the lemon/lime and squeeze some of the juice into the sparkling water, then add the lemon/lime into the sparkling water

Add 2-3 drops of the Stevia to the sparkling water.
